Announcements for THE WEEK of June 14, 2026

SMALL GROUPS FOR ADULTS

Sunday School for Adults: Currently there are two options. The Wharton Sunday School class meets in room #115 on the first floor at 9:45am, taught by Howard Hendricks. The other option for adults is the Friends in Faith class, which meets in the conference room at 10am. All adults are welcome.

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES

Our Summer Sandwich Ministry will begin on Tuesday June 16th

at 6:30 p.m. when we meet to prepare bags for distribution. On Wednesday, June

17th we will make PB&J and cheese sandwiches beginning at 9:00 a.m.

and deliver them immediately after completion. Last year we delivered an

average of 150 sandwiches each week. Volunteers

are needed for all activities

Please consider donating your time as well as items to stuff the bags.

The items needed include creamy peanut butter, grape jam, single serving fruit

cups, single serving bags of chips and juice boxes. Monetary donations are also

needed. We will serve our surrounding community every week throughout the summer, ending August 19th. If

you would like to help, use the QR code to sign up or see signup sheets on the

wall beside the storage room across from the kitchen.

Belong Groups will meet on July 21st at 10 a.m. & 5:30 p.m. Belong is a group spiritual

practice that strengthens relationships through communal discernment. Groups

last an hour or less and newcomers are welcome!

Summer Feeding Program for Children: For the last two years, GUMC has offered a summer feeding

program with support from SAFE. This year, we will instead be a partner in

SAFE’s summer feeding program for children, serving as a pick-up location to

make it easy for families with ties to the church to get their food each

week. The program runs from the week of June 1 through the week of August

17, with each child receiving 14 meals per week. Families who want to

participate need to register through SAFE, using the QR code. If you want to

pick up your food at the church, please note GUMC where it asks for the

address. We do not know yet what day of the week GUMC will offer food pick

up. Once we do, we will need a few volunteers each week to help distribute the

food to families. Let Michelle Rash or Jane Deaton know if you have any

questions.

We are now using Ministry Brands for the Prayer Chain and other mass communications. If you are not receiving

them, please check your spam folder and be sure you have shared your info with

the church office in the church app. Only people who we invite have access to

the information you mark public in the app. We will soon begin sending text

messages in addition to emails because some of you have only shared cell phones

with us. If you would like to and are not receiving communications, please

contact Greyson at the church office Tuesday-Thursday or send an email. Thursday

afternoon through Monday, the fastest way to get something sent out on the

prayer chain is via Pastor Carol.

The United Women in Faith is collecting Jewelry for the

Residential Treatment Services of Alamance for their huge jewelry fundraiser in

Sept. Look for a box in the Welcome Center in which to place your unwanted

jewelry, watches, cufflinks, etc. Please put jewelry in Ziplock bags so all

pieces stay together. Questions?  Contact

Shirley Beyer 336-584-6911.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Nurseries: The nursery is available at both services for babies - 5 years old.

Kingdom Kids: Kingdom Kids meets on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:45 pm. Dinner is provided each week for children and volunteers.

Children’s Sunday School: We are using the Sunday School curriculum “Two or More.” This curriculum provides children with Bible-rich experiences and grow in faith together. It is designed to be a one-room curriculum, bringing elementary-aged children together to be seen, known and loved. The elementary Sunday School class meets each Sunday morning on the second floor of the church.

Tween Youth Group: The tweens meet on Sundays from 4 to 5:15.

Tween Sunday School: On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, we offer two separate tween Sunday School classes, one for 5th and 6th graders and one for 7th and 8thgraders. Both use the Bible Studies for Life curriculum and meet on the lower level of the church.

High School Ministry (9th through 12th grade): We are exploring options for a winter or spring retreat for our high school youth. We are also in early discussions with other local churches about doing collaborative events with their youth on a regular basis.
